CONSUMPTION RATIONALIZATION: A SOCIAL STUDY OF RURAL WOMEN IN MENOUFIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract
This study aimed basically at understanding the behavior of rural women regarding the consumption rationalization of the basic resources: gas, electricity, drinking water, food and clothing, This main objective was achieved theoretically and empirically through the following sub-objectives: 1- Identifying components of rural women behavior related to consumption rationalization (Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices). 2- Determining the correlates associated with the behavior of rural women regarding consumption rationalization. The study was carried out in four villages in Menoufia governorate, Zanara, Kafr El Sheikh Ibrahim, Manshat Bakhati, and Al-Akhmas. The sample was randomly selected from the families In Menoufia governorate, where the sample size was 400 women, as 100 respondents from each village .
The study findings can be summarized as follows : (a) consumption rationalization behavior for (Gas, electricity, Water, food) was medium as a lot of respondents while Behavior of rationalizing clothing consumption was high, (b) Level of education was the most variable correlated with and effected on consumption rationalization in general .
